Hybrid Pens

The pens in this category typically start out as:

  • Old pens with interesting bodies, but with damaged or missing nibs or feeds
  • Third-tier or lower-end models
  • Models that are unlikely to provide a good writing experience if restored as-is

Before sale, they are rebuilt with a process that modernizes the inside of each pen:

  • Thorough cleaning
  • Removal of parts no longer needed, such as pressure bars
  • Modification of parts as needed to support new filling systems, like fixing a filling lever in place
  • Insertion of a new nib, feed and section
  • Repairs to other parts of the pen if needed, such as replacement of an inner cap
  • Testing over a week or two to ensure the writing experience is satisfactory
  • Minor nib adjustments if needed
  • Additional cleaning after testing
  • A bit of a shine and polish

The goal with these pens is to preserve the vintage feel of the pen while fitting it with updated parts to give it a new life as a modern fountain pen.
